"By experiencing the stressors [of military life], I am able to understand and bring personal knowledge to help military families, and let them know that our battalion and the Marine Corps care about them.

Lauren Bristow was accepted to the FINRA Foundation Military Spouse Fellowship Program in August 2010 and is currently working toward her financial counselor accreditation. As a member service representative at a local credit union, she has some experience in the financial industry, but looks forward to growing in the field.

Along with her professional interests, Lauren has a strong passion for helping military families. The Fellowship has provided her with a unique opportunity to combine the two.

Lauren is married to Marine Sgt. John Bristow. The couple have three deployments under their belts and a fourth fast-approaching, so they have first-hand experience with the emotional and financial struggles associated with military life—making the Fellowship program a great fit.

"By experiencing the stressors [of military life], I am able to understand and bring personal knowledge to help military families, and let them know that our battalion and the Marine Corps care about them.”

After earning her accreditation, Lauren plans to pursue a career providing financial counseling to military personnel and their families as a way to give back to the military community.

"I've learned so much from my practicum hours, but what's most important is giving back to the same people that support my family every day.”

Lauren and John are both Shawnee, Oklahoma, natives and have been married for four years. They are currently stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and have a 3-year-old son, Kaleb.
