USS RONALD REAGAN Plays Host to NASD Financial Education Forums

April 25–29, 2006

The aircraft carrier USS RONALD REAGAN hosted a team of financial educators from the NASD Investor Education Foundation, who gave nearly 30 seminars to officers and crew over a three-day period in late April. Deployed in the Persian Gulf, the carrier provided a unique opportunity to provide the more than 5,000 servicemembers aboard with an array of information about saving and investing.

The team was welcomed aboard by Commanding Officer Captain Terry Kraft, Executive Officer Captain William J. Hart and Command Master Chief James E. DeLozier. "Our goal was to integrate ourselves into the life of the carrier," said John Gannon, NASD Investor Education's Executive Director. "We gave seminars at all times of day and night in the messes and the Foc'sle, reaching enlisted and officers alike."

"It was clear they came here to work," said Master Chief DeLozier. "The seminars were well attended and the information extremely valuable." Seminar topics included avoiding the predatory loan trap, smart saving for retirement and college, investing in bonds, and how to choose an investment professional.

The NASD Investor Education Foundation continues the roll out of its Military Education Program with forums at the Naval Submarine Base in Kings Bay, Georgia, June 13, 2006.
