Special to SAI: Are You "Savings Ready?"
Crystal, a single E4, was working in her installation's Public Affairs office when a photographer with the Military Saves campaign asked if she'd be willing to pose for the campaign poster. She agreed. Later it occurred to her, "It's going to be bad if I'm on all these posters and I'm not saving."
She always intended to save, but never got around to it. Now, only 18 months later, she has no credit card debt, an emergency fund, and a savings account for a down payment on a house. She also contributes to Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), and has a Roth IRA.

"I hope this is your email" Scam Offers No Hope of Profits
You get an email at home or work from Tanya, or Weldon, or maybe Kristy. You open it and read some poorly-worded prose like the following (from a spam email received by NASD):
"Hi I hope this is your email. I was pleased to meet you the other day. I expect you was excited about New York. So much so much happening all the time, lot of great opportunities. And speaking of opportunities, the deal I was speaking about yesterday involves a company known as..."
No, you don't have amnesia. You've never met the person who sent you the email. It's from somebody who in all likelihood is being paid to send this message to thousands of email addresses. The hope is that you and others will fall for the scam and buy shares of the recommended stock.

Investor Education
During the week of March 5-9, a team from the NASD Investor Education Foundation hosted Military Financial Education Forums at 5 bases and stations that are part of Marine Corps Installations West, including MCAS Yuma, AZ, MCRD San Diego, CA, MCB Camp Pendleton, CA, MCAS Miramar, CA, and MCAGCC Twentynine Palms, CA. Major General Michael R. Lehnert, Commanding General, Marine Corps Installations West, stressed the vital importance of financial education in his opening comments at the MCB Camp Pendleton event, which also featured Securities and Exchange Commissioner Paul Atkins. Nearly 1,000 servicemembers, spouses, and civilians received valuable education on how to manage their money with confidence from members of the Foundation team and representatives from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission and the California Department of Corporations.
Earlier in the year, more than 600 officers, enlisted personnel, and spouses attended a similar event at Fort Gordon.
